Peculiar type of lag
I was stomping through the catacombs last night, smiting the evil undead hordes with the divine force of Balthazar at my side (/moodsetting), when suddenly I was hit by lag.
Now, this is nothing unusual, ofcourse, since you play online = you have lag. Actually, I think GW is admirable in that it happens very rarely. However, this lag seemed to be a bit peculiar. There was one lvl 3 skellie still attacking me, and he KEPT DOING DAMAGE... In the meantime, i was frozen, couldn't move, I was hitting my heal skills, heal siggy, etc, and they were all blinking trying to go, and nothing happened. But I kept getting damage! Ofcourse, this ended with the idiot skeleton killing me (the disgrace!) and me ressing at the shrine (immediately, I might add). Now, there's no issue with me dying or anything, although it was the first and only time that char had died so far, and it forced me to rewalk the full 7 minutes to where I was, but isn't this weird? I mean, I'm used to lag just freezing both sides, and then all of a sudden a burst of like 50 "rounds" happens in one second. Which is why I'm always careful to stack up healing during lag, so I don't get ganked. But in this case, I was frozen solid, and still kept getting damaged. Crap, I'd hate to see this happen while you're fighting the very very last boss monster. has anyone ever experienced this? It almost seems as if your own damage is taken care of by your client, and the rest is handled by the server, but that seems a VERY strange way of doing things? Creston |

Tis weird, the worst i've had is just everything around freezing... pve, so the bots where still doing dmg i think. I was just hitting skills and came out of it with the baddies dead... never just been frozen and taking it though.

sounds like its client side- you most likely have a short in your keyboard or mouse that caused it. time to replace them I guess

no thats the way lag is on here sometimes, other times it makes you keep going through the same place over and over, like for example you walk over a bridge, and then your in front of it again, walk over it, and your in front of it again, true though that there isnt much lag on here.

I had some weirdness happen this weekend as well, I was in Ascalon at storage wanting to take something from my box and when I moved the item over it wouldn't move to my inventory. I tried a few times nothing happened. I closed the storage and when I clicked on the agent to open storage again nothing, I did this a few times and nothing. Everyone around me is moving about like normal, I can move around but my storage box had lag issues. Then I got booted from the game and when I went back in my character was in a different city and the items that I'd tried moving from storage were in my inventory.

Had that issue in PvP last night. Actively receiving data but large delays for sending out actions. Really bad when you're playing a reactive class too >.<

The other interesting (?) aspect of lag for Minion Necros is that your minion's health bar continues to drop at a normal rate while everything else is stopped. I've gone into battle with an army of minion, lost all my minions during a lag and found myself soloing against a mob.

i had a similar experience in fissure of woe. we were going our bussines doing our stuff when all of a sudden my heals wouldnt start and remained in that casting state. i could see all the other players walking, fighting, even chatting and wondering why i wasnt moving when i was right beside them and running around and trying to tell them im having lag and only at the end of it the text appeared.

Anti-Virus
Last time I experienced a lag that bad, that was because my Anti-Virus was performing a full system scan.
Be sure to turn off any CPU consuming software (such as anti-virus autoscan) before running full screen softwares. I also recommend that you record what network ports are in use when you experience bad lag when playing online games... A friend of mine had his FTP server taking nearly 90% of his bandwidth! |
